This is one of the cheapest cuckoo clocks on the market today. This plastic Chalet cuckoo clock is made as a novelty item for a childrens play room. I made the case for this clock out of solid fiddle-back Maple, Cherry, and Black Walnut. The hands are Cherry. The pendulum was made of Cherry, Black Walnut, and Abalone shell. The only parts I did not make are the all wood vinage whistles(with recovered bellows), the gong(2 3"70mm new), the vintage dial, the movment(cuckoo clock mfg. co.), the chains and weights. I cleaned, oiled and adjusted the movement. The Maple face piece is only 4 1/4 inches wide by 4 3/4 inches on the ends and 6 inches tall in the center. Over all it is 9 1/4 inches tall from the top of the Walnut crest to the very bottom of the Walnut scrollwork. It now keeps perfect time and is a unique piece designed by myself.

Movement marked DRGM (Deutsches Reich Gebrauchmuster) which dates it to before 1945. I bought it online as"tested,working great". It did not even chime when the hands were turned. I had to dismantle the entire clock, clean, oil, and adjust the movement and reassemble everything. The crest needed the two loops replaced that holds it to the roofline(it had one large staple in one side). It also needed the bellows releathered and a matching minute hand was replaced by me. It is a 3 train, turntable, large fan, lyre type count wheel movement with a Thornes music movement. These are quite rare and hard to find. The weights are quite heavy and only run the clock for one day. This one is fully adjusted now and oiled ready for many more cuckoos. The little people come out every 30 minutes to dance around twice, hand in hand, before going back inside waiting to celebrate the next half hour. The case is 19 1/2" by 13 3/4". It has a nice large pendulum with a very long swing. You can see it dwarfs the 9" cuckoo that is hanging beside it for the moment.

This is the cuckoo clock after restoration. i put in new bronze bushings, new bellows, new bellow lift wires, and the wire gong attached to the back. before you leave a comment saying that it sounds horrible, just remember, the camera is crappy quality, and the cuckoo clock is very, very old.

Cuckoo clock stores were everywhere and the "i" was super easy to find! So, we parked and Layton and Jana went to find a place to stay. We left the parents at the shopping. Before we walked out of the store, Jim & Willa Jana AND Judy had bought clocks and were shipping them home! WJ and Jim had to carry the weights for the clock they bought!!! Crazy! The town was sort of dead at night, but we were able to find a place to serve us our usual schnitzel and wurst and yes....desserts! The next morning we visited the World's largest cuckoo clock and even got to go inside the working parts which was pretty cool. We also went to the town hall to see some wood carvings that were pretty random. (We learned that town hall is rathaus in German.) Then, we drove up to the wasserfall (waterfall) which is Germany 's largest waterfall. We treated ourselves with lunch and the traditional Black Forrest cake at Schafer Cafe who has been making it from a recipe that was created in 1905! It was none of our FAVORITES but it was really yummy. RANDOM Layton , Judy and Jana got a lesson on "real" cuckcoo clocks. We found out that traditional cuckcoo clocks have a specific bird.
