I've inherited a wooden carved antique cuckoo clock manufactured by Hubert Herr from Germany.
It's been in the family for at least two decades (I've been told three, though), which means that it was either manufactured during the 1800's, or the early 1900's.
Is there a way to tell for sure?
I've also been told that the numbers on the weights can be indicative (the numbers say 1500).
Your feedback will be much appreciated!

To saaanen: I'm well aware that the numbers on the weights refer to the weight. The weight itself can be indicative of the age, though.
Please send me some helpful info - sarcasm is overrated.

This is a huge cuckoo clock built into the side of a building that houses a glass blowing shop and a cuckoo clock maker. I think it is billed as the largest cuckoo clock in the country, if not the world.

I have an old antique clock that I have to get rid of. I need to sell it but I have no idea how to tell what it is worth. This I do know. The clock is so old that all the parts are wooden. The wheels inside are made of wood. One part is made of string but everything inside is made of wood except for tiny little clips.
I know that it went to Germany years ago...I think during the war and back. It was taken apart and all the pieces were wrapped up to prevent breaking. Well to this day it still remains in a box with the piecse wrapped. It will take someone who knows how to put it together. How can I detremine the age and value? NO markings that I can find..not even on the face. I hate to let it go but I have no other options.

Cuckoo clock stores were everywhere and the "i" was super easy to find! So, we parked and Layton and Jana went to find a place to stay. We left the parents at the shopping. Before we walked out of the store, Jim & Willa Jana AND Judy had bought clocks and were shipping them home! WJ and Jim had to carry the weights for the clock they bought!!! Crazy! The town was sort of dead at night, but we were able to find a place to serve us our usual schnitzel and wurst and yes....desserts! The next morning we visited the World's largest cuckoo clock and even got to go inside the working parts which was pretty cool. We also went to the town hall to see some wood carvings that were pretty random. (We learned that town hall is rathaus in German.) Then, we drove up to the wasserfall (waterfall) which is Germany 's largest waterfall. We treated ourselves with lunch and the traditional Black Forrest cake at Schafer Cafe who has been making it from a recipe that was created in 1905! It was none of our FAVORITES but it was really yummy. RANDOM Layton , Judy and Jana got a lesson on "real" cuckcoo clocks. We found out that traditional cuckcoo clocks have a specific bird. I found this clock and i know its old but just not sure how old. Its a bronze and its round. The face of the clock says Renco Repetition. I also know it was made in Germany. It sits on the desk. It is some kind of stop watch or timer also. Does anyone know anything about this? I have searched the web and can't find a thing. Thanks 
It was found in an old ladys basement that was damaged from the recent flood. but the clock didn't get wet

There is this professor I know at my college who helped me out a lot through college and was above all a great teacher who I wanted to give a gift to because I felt I owed him some token of gratitude for all the help that he gave me. I mean, the professor really did not have to go out of his way to help, but he did, hence the consideration.
I was going to be visiting relatives in Germany soon, and I was thinking I might buy a cuckoo clock for the prof from someone who knows my father well, which means it wont be terribly expensive. But I am worried that this might be something that could get me in trouble because I still might need to ask the professor for references. I am also worried it might start rumors (i.e of bribery) and could actually cause problems for the professor. So, is it generally considered OK for students to give gifts like this or am I better of just leaving a small thank you card or just writing to him to thank him ?
Just to emphasize one thing:
He is NOT teaching any of my classes anymore, so its not about passing courses
